Once players unlock the special ability in the game, they can fit a code input card over the Nintendo DS touch screen and use the stylus to consecutively tap numerical holes in the cards, unlocking new content, which includes creatures and minerals.

In Spectrobes: Origins, Card Input utilizes a different entry system due to the lack of a touchscreen on the Wii. Card Input is the only way to acquire Secret Spectrobes such as Kibatekka, Isadora, Vilakroma, and Bakuraiya in Beyond the Portals and Windora and Vilakroma in Spectrobes. Cards from the first Spectrobes game can be input into Spectrobes: Beyond the Portals after obtaining the Dynalium near the end of the story, but cards from Spectrobes: Beyond the Portals can never be utilized with the original game. In Spectrobes, you unlock Card Input from a cube, while in Spectrobes: Beyond the Portals, you unlock it after you agree to help Digg repair Aldous's escape pod.
